Dollywood – Part II

This is the pictures I’ve promised! :) I’ve got roughly 800 pictures between me and my sister’s camera. Here’s some of my favorites. I may do some additional pictures posts, but for now, I hope you enjoy these. :)

This weekend was a Dollywood-filled weekend for me! :) On Saturday, me and my sister decided to spend some quality sibling time. When we left the house, the weather was nice. As we drove into the parking lot…it was pouring. It let up, and we were thrilled…then, it just was rainy all day.

ME! Before all the rain soaked in…

The main tree in the center of the park…
02

I thought this tree inside the Grist Mill was very pretty…
03

Me and Amanda (my sister) was hungry and we ventured towards Timber Canyon to eat a baked potato. It was raining pretty heavy, so I couldn’t get many pictures. We hit up the Blazing Fury then the Tennessee Tornado. The Tornado was a BAD IDEA. The speed of the coaster made the rain feel like thousands of needles hitting your face!

However, our ride video was so funny because of the pain and the faces we made…we bought one. I’m going to upload it to YouTube soon…and then I’ll post a link.

Finally, we get to the Lumbercamp. For the past two seasons, I’ve been trying to get a meal called “The Sawmill.” It’s a twice-baked potato made with sour cream, cheese, scallions, and bacon bits. TWO SEASONS now…everytime I go to get one…it’s sold out.

Until yesterday.

Since it was raining, we decided to go see Christmas in the Smokies.

After the show, we went to ride the train. It was so BD dark we couldn’t get pictures.

After the train, we went into the Magic shop, where I made some magic with this butterfly:
05

The magician was a total hottie.

Anyway…

I found this Santa Necklace with a demonic Santa attached. “YOU BETTER WATCH OUT…”

We headed back up towards Craftman’s Valley to try to find a friend that works there, and this scene caught my eye:
09

We found our friend, but she had to jet, so we continued on up towards Wilderness Pass and back down towards the gate.

I’m still so amazed at the theming from Wilderness Pass. This is on the side of Splinter’s…a restaurant named after a squirrel character from River Battle…
10

We were heading towards The Pines to see ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and this beauty caught my eye:

The show’s set:

Since the show was at 8:45, it didn’t let out until 9:30, so we immediately headed for the trams to come home.

On the way back to the park with the entire family, we had to stop and get gas. At the gas station, we realized they went all-out with the decorations this year…
14

My little brother Peyton (who is two) loves the Polar Express, so we headed straight for it. We only had to wait 45 minutes…with my mom being in a wheelchair. If she hadn’t wanted to ride, it was a 2.5 hour wait!

My little brother was so happy to see Tom Hanks there:

We went to ride the train (cold cold train)…

Me and my mama on the train…

After the train, we took my little brothers and sisters to see Santa. :)

My mom wanted a picture of all her kids with Santa. :) This Santa made me very emotional. He was so good with kids and was truly taking his time to make sure each child felt special.
22

After the picture, my mom and sister went to see a show, and my step-dad took my little siblings home. I walked around and took pictures. :)

I finally made my way up to this beautiful thing…Blazing Fury. This ride is a dark ride/indoor roller coaster. It’s a crazy journey through a “burning” town with a splashdown finish! It was designed by the park’s maintenance team when it was still Silver Dollar City Tennessee. Silver Dollar City (in Branson, MO), still has their version of this ride called “Fire in the Hole.” BF was my first roller coaster ever. :)
29

I went into the queue line…and I was the absolutely only person in the station. I was also the only one on my train. It’s nice they let me have an exclusive ride.

I got scared all alone.
30

This is my favorite ride in the park and my all-time favorite roller coaster:
31

Denied.
32

Oooo….Awwww…
33

It was too cold for most of the big rides…
36

I found my mom and sister around The Polar Express…sitting in the snow…

The Emporium had this Christmas tree…upside down? Why? lol.

Well, that’s it…Thanks for staying with me! :) Remember…

Always…

  1. I’ve been to Disneyland, Disneyworld, Fiesta Texas, Six Flags over Texas, Astroworld, and SeaWorld. I must admit that I’ve never been even slightly interested in seeing Dollywood; however, after your photo montage, I think I’d like to go. Of course, I’m sure it’s extra pretty right now because of the Christmas decor.

You and your family looked like you had a great time and I’m glad.

  2. Sorry for a double post. ><

I was just looking more carefully at the gas station Christmas tree photo. That thing is as dry as it gets. I really hope that don’t turn the lights on tonight. It’ll go up in a blaze of glory! And propped next to the propane tanks! Ha ha!

A Christmas bonfire to end all bonfires!

  3. Michael – Dollywood is beautiful no matter what the season. While it “shines” during the Holidays, in spring all the flowers are gorgeous. In summer you can find waterfalls all around the park. The natural beauty of the fall colors are spectacular for the Harvest Celebration. It’s definitely worth a visit. :) if you do, let me know!!

The gas station is so odd, but it’s the cheapest gas around, LOL.

Don’t worry about the double post. I wasn’t bothered. :)

  4. Aaaaand I’m back. Stalker much?

I wanted to show my brother the dried up Christmas tree waiting to go up in flames next to the propane tanks. Hee hee.

Say, any pictures of the Magician? Wink wink…

  5. [...] 22, 2008 by Joie Mayfield So, I had a viewer ask for pictures of the magician from my post (Dollywood – Part II). He’s gorgeous, in my opinion. Here’s his images. .gallery { margin: auto; } [...]

  6. Michael, lol. – Magician pictures posted for viewing pleasure.

  7. awesome pics, Joie…Must say there are quite a few trippy ones. You should be the spokesperson for Dollywood!

  8. Thanks, Hostess! :) I would love to be a spokesman for the park, lol.
